Many people know the sensational “hype” Chesterfield cigarettes. The advertising campaign for the first time in the history of mankind confidently said that women can smoke, moreover, the advertisement showed how cool the “smoking” girl is. Before that, only men could inhale tobacco, and if a woman smokes, then it was considered disgusting, unacceptable.
In 1876, Chesterfields Drummond Tobacco was first released, a company that made chewing tobacco. She had no career ambitions about cigarettes – they were second-rate, the goals were to make them mostly aristocratic. But they soon collapsed. On the threshold of imperialism, monopolism was merciless. So Drummond Tobacco was taken over by American Tobacco.
Tobacco wars have begun in the United States. The developers of black tobacco stood up against the monopolies. The Night Riders staged a terror in the hope that people would stop poisoning themselves. The war ended in 1907, but the night riders continued to rebel even against civilians. 1907 – American Tobacco Company won over 90% of the world market, which the government did not like. The special services undertook to check the number of violations: there were too many of them and they were serious. During the trial, they decided to divide American Tobacco into parts.
In 1911 Chesterfield cigarettes were taken over by Liggett & Myers. Chester has changed with the times. Advertising, packaging, mixture – all that remains of them is a beautiful name. To increase sales, they used “black PR”. They started a rumor that lepers were plowing in the company and competitors decided to finish it off: “The company allocated charity to Hitler in the amount of $ 1.5 million. For the German soldiers who were held hostage, cigarettes were currency, so the stuffing was “reasoned.” Chesterfield cigarettes influenced the culture of Germany, even a song was invented: “Wettn Ami mil der Schwester spiel bekomme ich ein Chesterfield”
The sales of Chesterfield cigarettes increased and celebrities even began to star in their commercials – James Dim – an American actor, Humphrey Bogart – a film actor who won an Oscar for Best Actor, Lucille Ball – a comedian, Paul Bryant – a football coach who received 323 awards, Ronald Reagan – the future the president. When Ronald Reagan became president, he was ashamed of his past.
